The Power of a Woman

ORLANDO, Fla -- “Its all about you”, says Sheritta Johnson (CEO) a public speaker and life coach of women empowerment.


On Saturday, April 25 2009 at the Orlando Public Library , Johnson shared with a group of women about ways of helping your self esteem for example building self trust, inner and outer confidence, identifying and eliminating negative thoughts, centering life values and understanding the balance of power.

Johnson stated that her reason for focusing on women with low self esteem is because she once had to deal with low self esteem growing up as child, but later realize that she wasn’t alone in her fight with dealing with low self esteem. Johnson later went back to school and received her Associate of Art Degree and then later attended Palm Beach Atlantic University graduating cum laude with her Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Behavior.

Since 2001, Johnson has been doing public speaking at local free seminars/workshops to get her message across to the most women possible she can reach out to.


Johnson with her humble and down to earth personality gave details about her personal struggles with low self esteem and how she over came them as she got older and began gaining confident in herself. Johnson explained that most women develop low self esteem at a young age due to the fact they come from broken homes or work at low paying jobs both contribute to a women feeling down or depressed about themselves which can cause young girls confidents to go down. Johnson stated “as a child I came from a broken home, so I can relate to women who are having trouble with low self esteem.”


Shantel Williams a audience member began to tear up as she spoke about the times when she was a young teen she had struggled with self confident and had trouble believing in herself. Williams stated “I don’t just want to have confidence in myself sometime, but all the time.” Williams said this was her reason for coming out and attending this seminar so she could get to the next level and have a higher self esteem within herself.

This is a statement posted on Johnson website, that Johnson stands by when she speaks to women about gaining self confident, Johnson believes that a women thoughts can help enhance women to gain confidence and believe in oneself which is the message Johnson is trying get across to all women of all ages.

Riann Landers was one of the younger women in the audience, said she decided to attend the seminar to help make her a better person, Landers says “I have been known to come off as a negative person, but I’m really not, well at least I think so.” Landers said she would like to be a more positive person. Johnson explains that women should eliminate negative attitudes and thoughts as well, which is one way a women can improve and gain more confident.

This a quote that was also posted on Johnson's website, Johnson believes that everything should be balanced in order to increase your performance as a person, her ultimate goal is to make a difference in each person life, she simply stated it is not about the money, "it is about helping women feel beautiful inside and out."

A Man on a Mission

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Saving one life at a time is what Mike Adkins a pastor of Grace Fellowship Church has been trying to accomplish since he became a pastor 15 years ago. Adkins came to Valencia Community College Wednesday, March 16, to talk about his goals he had accomplished in the past and the ones he wants to reach in the future.

“Meet needs so that hearts are open,” said Adkins is the direction he is trying to go in, by forming the Grace Fellowship Church in 2003 and five years later teaming up with the Destiny Foundation, and also by creating the Easter at Eloa event for Easter, Adkins is succeeding in his mission to open hearts.

Adkins who is also the leader of the Easter at Eola event which got recognize this year by three different news channels for handing out 500 bags of groceries, for their acts of kindness by reaching out to the working poor, and also by restocking the clinics with media supplies.


“Instead of giving a hand out we give a hand up.” said Adkins.

Adkins’s has stated that Grace Fellowship Church is open to everyone including non Christians, he also included that his church is a non political church as well, “you can change the law but you can’t change what's in their hearts” said Adkins.

Grace Fellowship Church stated on their website that they have a heart for the poor both here and the world, Adkins has proven that by working with the church to help Rwanda by bringing clean water and help rebuild wells. Adkins stated “the problem is not clean water it’s the access to clean water.”

Adkins has stated that his next main goal is to reach out to women and kids, the single and abused who need the help or a place to stay for protection. Adkins said he would like to set up shelters where the women can be protected from their abusers.

“My mission is to help people take their next step towards Christ,” Adkins stated was his main purpose for doing what does for the people.

How To Make-Up Your Day




Tips and tricks is what professional make-up artist Lindy Chern shared with the audience on how to apply make-up at the Winter Garden Branch Library on Monday, March 16,2009.

Lindy Chern really got the audience attention at this public event by not only telling the audience about how to apply the make-up but she also showed the audience by using a guest as a model. Chern explained with details on how to apply the right amount of make-up for different occasions, for example if it is a bridal event you would then want to buy make-up that is long lasting, that will last the whole day since it would be a all day event and you would also want to make sure your make-up blends in with your skin tone so your skin looks natural. She also said do not forget concealer because it helps to get rid of unwanted shadows that might come on the surface of your face.

Chern really caught one audience member attention Kemira Willard who was amazed on how a little make-up can go along way, Willard had stated “ I didn’t realize make-up came with so much detail," Willard was watching step by step as Chern explained the methods you can use if your eyes are shaped a certain way for example some people have eyes that are Deep Set, Wide Set , Close Set, Down Turned, and Asian eyes and with each one you would apply make-up a certain way to help bring out your eyes.

Lindy Chern first started doing make-up at the age of 19 and she is now a professional make-up artist at the age of 23, Chern does make-up for special events such as, Bridal Events, Theatre, Photography, and also Film. Chern has stated that the she loves being a make-up artist, “I get the chance to inspire women and I like having the opportunity of making women feel good about themselves”.

Carissa Rembert a audience member who volunteered to get a makeover, just recently started wearing make-up and she finds it to be challenge. Rembert stated, “I love make-up and the way it makes your appearance look but its hard to find what fits you”. Rembert explained that is why she came in and participated in this event to see if she would be able to gain more knowledge and get tips on what to look for to help improve her look.


Chern is a make-up artist that not only enjoys what she does but she also loves it as well, Chern says she also likes the fact that she gets to travel. Chern shared with me that the one event that she was most excited about being at was on the set of a Kelly Clarkson movie that was being filmed in Miami, she said that was one place she never thought she would be at.

Chern is currently working for cosmetic company while she is still in school, but she does one day hope to do make-up for celebrities in her future but she says right now her main focus is to finish school.

I Do, was the two words that came out of the certified special event professional Stacey Paul Barabe five years ago when she married her husband on the lake in Lake Buena Vista. Barabe became a special event coordinator by simply picking a newspaper and making a phone call and has been coordinating weddings all over ever since.

Stacey Paul Barabe has been a special event coordinator for fourteen years and she has not only planned other people weddings but she also planned her own. Barabe had stated that the reason she has been planning weddings for so long is the simple fact “It fits my personality, everyday is a new challenge and I love the fact that I get a chance to fulfill peoples dream wedding”.


Barabe, was recently in town on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Hiawassee Branch Library where spoke about the latest wedding (color) trends of 2009 and it was a hit. Barabe went into details explaining the Hottest Colors of 2009, from Charcoal being the new chocolate color to sunset colors and different shades of purple.

She also spoke about new and hottest tends of 2009, as far as vintage and retro(up do) hair pieces. She then went into detail by naming several types of weddings people can choose like from Wedding Themes, Farm Wedding (outdoor), Fairy Tale Weddings, Chic and Hip Weddings, Elaborate Destination Weddings, Tent Weddings, and even a Long Weekend Weddings.

“Wow there are some many weddings to choose from, I don’t know which one I would want” said Elizabeth Pierre. Pierre which was born and raised in Haiti had no idea there were so many different wedding styles to choose from and was amazed at the different types weddings. Pierre had stated that her reason for attending this event was simply to gain more knowledge about weddings and said that Stacey Paul Barbae was a outstanding speaker.

Barabe is a amazing wedding coordinator who really loves and joys what she does, especially the traveling. She has planned and coordinated many weddings all over, from her hometown of Ohio to places like Aroba and Turks and Caicos which was the two places she was most excited about.

Stacey Paul Barabe really grasped the crowd with her amazing pictures and unique ideas of all the weddings she had coordinated, which left one guest Fanette Dulsco speechless. Dulsco stated, “By me being here really gave me a new outlook on different weddings styles, man I am sure glad I came today”, full excitement and energy Dulsco was really pleased with the presentation Barbae presented and she also plans on attending a upcoming bride show that Stacey Paul Barabe will also be attending for National’s Wedding Month.

Stacey Paul Barabe simply wrapped up the exquisite event by stating,“Everyone is unique with a unique wedding planner to fit, its just a matter of finding your match and that is the key to a perfect wedding”.
